Will The Severn Bore Be No More?
tidal bores are formed as incoming tides filter into a narrow channel,
and increase the height of the water, the picture was taken yesterday near the village of Hempsted, south of Gloucester, where surfers met for three of the biggest bores in recent years, the Severn Bore is the second highest in the world, it has been known to top 6ft, with an average speed of 10mph, large bores happen on about 25 days a year,
but all of this may change, the proposed Severn Barrage, a £15billion plan to dam the estuary and generate electricity, will stop the bore from being formed, but the good news if that happens is that it will no longer be a worry for the Health and Safety brigade, is the water clean enough? will you get wet when you fall in?
