I soon had enough of that so I moved on to mixing some paint to colour the rock fall,
I just keep adding the paint and then washing it off slightly with water sprayed from a plant mister,
the colour is nearly as it should be, but as with anything like this it is all down to how you remember the effect from real life,
well it is sort of the same colour,
next add a few more 'bushes',
a few more bits added to the left hand hill, then enough already,
time for the Friday night market,
one of the stalls selling dogs, cats, hamsters, squirrels, birds and lizards,
every time Diana cuts my hair she runs her hand over my head and calls it a crystal ball, perhaps I should get a hair extension!
you may have seen from the comments we now have a Thai cooking expert with us, so as I mentioned in the comment I have not seen these before, they look very sticky but I do not have a clue what they are or what they are called, so over to you,
I of course was sitting at the bar when Diana called back with the first purchases of the day, food for later this evening,
next she arrived with a matching coloured bag,
inside of which was a nice white denim jacket, a bargain at only 150 baht, Diana hates getting brown in the sun, so she always wears a long sleeve jacket when we are out and about on the bike, one thing I have noticed and even Diana commented on it, was the number of couples that call into the bar that buy just one drink between the two of them, not just one or two couples but several in the couple of hours we sit there, taking this to an extreme was a couple with 4 kids, I am guessing, as I do not speak child, they were from the ages of about 6 to 14 years old, dad bought 1 tin of coke with a straw for 20 baht which they all shared, I really think that this is the kind of tourist Pattaya is now seeing more and more of, not spending one baht more than is needed, shame for the vendors who see people who want a drink each that can not then find a seat whilst the tin of coke is shared,
home for a Scotch egg salad, feet up and watch some television, first Midsomer Murders, Bantling Boy, a four-member syndicate owns a racehorse that two of them are desperate to sell and two of them are determined to keep, when one of them is murdered, Barnaby is on the case, what is worse it dose not stop at just the one murder, then Kavanagh QC, True Commitment, the story concerns a man accused of killing another in a riot, and he forever protests his innocence and that his girlfriend committed the crime, this moves along at a reasonable pace, and is nicely balanced with a couple of subplots such as Jeremy forming a sort of relationship with a woman he acquitted, even Diana was telling Jeremy not to do it! then off to bed.
They are a variety of Thai sweets or Thai desserts (Khanom Thai/Khanom Whaan) for which each respected street-vendor has his own secret family recipe. Main ingredients are mostly always tapioca flour, palm sugar, sticky rice and coconut milk/meat. They are then mixed with other ingredients such fresh fruits, lotus seeds, cassava roots, sweet essences from aromatic flowers and sometimes even minced pork. Natural coloring is added acquired from flowers and plants, such as red from red-roses, purple from blue pea blossoms and green from pandanus leaves. Lastly in many cases, scrapped coconut meat is sprinkled on those Thai sweets. Most Farangs never try them, as they ask so much time and skill to prepare that most Thai restaurants don't have them on the menu. Just spend a couple of Baht on the market and you will be sweetly surprised (just watch the scale if you're on a diet).
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteThe prestige is a great movie directed by Chris Nolan who directed Memento which is a brilliant film.
His new film Inception is out now and is meant to be very good also, yet to see it.
The Orchid Thief was made into a movie of sorts called Adaptation.
It won an Oscar for best adapted screen play so if you haven't seen it you should, seeing you've read the book. Fantastic movie.
Dear Anonymous, many, many thanks for your insight into the sweets that we saw, you are right when you say they are not in Thai restaurants, I have never seen them on a menu here or back in the UK, although sugar is off limits for me next time we are in the market I will buy a couple, best regards, Stan and Diana.
ReplyDeleteDear Dulcify for me The Prestige too is a great film we are really lucky as we have it on the now defunct Toshiba HD system so it looks stunning on the television, I did not know that the Orchid Thief had been made into a film, I have just ordered a double DVD of it with Being John Malkovich as the second DVD for £4.87 including postage, just looked up Inception but it is not yet out, but I will keep a look out for it, best regards, Stan and Diana.
Inception is on at the movies at the moment.
ReplyDeleteDear Dulcify, how strange just moments before reading you comment I had just said to Diana we should go to Central to watch a movie, cue the music to the Twilight Zone! best regards, Stan and Diana.
