I Find This Really Fascinating
the publishing of 19th century Royal Navy medical records,
whilst reading through the text it appears that rum or the excess of it was one of the main contributors of complaints on board,
but what was extraordinary was the skill of the surgeons of the time in drawing pictures of the ills that they treated, like the splinted leg and these drawings of the treatment of an eye infection, with no cameras to take photographs this was the only way visual knowledge could be passed on to other surgeons, and pictures of lands and safe harbours would be passed onto future Captains and navigators, great reading and a insight to our past.
