Another Day When We Did Not Take Single Picture,

but a few guests called round,

first thing in the morning Mr.Tony called in, followed in the afternoon by Juu, his wife and wife's cousin, but after they left for us it was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, two mutant brothers, Logan and Victor, born 200 years ago, suffer childhood trauma and have only each other to depend on, they cannot die, one takes the path of good, the other of evil, can they ever be friends again,?

the cover says it all, South Pacific, one ocean, 20,000 islands, a quarter of the worlds water, the area is so vast you could fit the whole of the world's landmasses into it and still have enough room for another Africa, also life has evolved so differently, flesh-eating caterpillars, geckos that can breed without any need of a male, frogs that have never been tadpoles, also mention was made of a ship that I had featured on our blog before, the Essex, that sailed out of Nantucket, Massachusetts in 1819 where the story Moby Dick is based, indeed the ship was rammed by a whale - twice, the Essex sunk, the survivors tell a story of hardship, death, murder and cannibalism, back to the DVD it was beautifully shot, so good in fact we watched the entire first DVD without a break, so we are looking forward to the next one,

next we jumped to Jumper, similar in some ways to the X-Men series, David Rice is a high school student in Ann Arbor, he discovers he can transport himself instantaneously to anyplace on earth, he robs a bank vault, and comes to the attention of a shadowy group of government hunters, eight years later, the hunters, led by the murderous Roland, get a fix on David, will they get the jump on him?

we had not watched Sharpe for some time so it was a welcome change to watch another episode, Sharpe's Regiment, Sharpe is horrified to be told that his regiment, the South Essex, is to be disbanded and discovers a plot whereby corrupt war minister Fenner and other high ranking militarists auction off soldiers privately, keeping the profits but still claiming on paper that the regiments exist, he is determined to expose the scandal at great risk to himself and those around him, then for us off to bed.

  2. Hi Stanley,

Just a quick question. I noticed you buy your wine by the box at Friendship. My one biggest expense in Pattaya is decent wine, and even the bad stuff is expensive. I decided to try the boxed variety from Friendship, but i haven't had much luck with the quality part. If you don't mind me asking, can you maybe let me know which one you are partial too? I know i have to keep my expectations reasonable, but you've been living there for a long time and have had the benefit of time to sample and taste.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Cheers,
    Curtis

  3. Dear Bodhi, I have tried the Inglenook and Franzia red, both I am afraid take a bit of getting used to, after the first couple of sips my taste buds go numb so they are sort of OK after that! we now, (when I can borrow a card) go to Makro's they sell a wine in a box called Mont Clair, if you have been to some of the restaurants that we go to it is served as their house wine, again I have only tried the red but at 865 baht for 5 liters it is the deal of the week! Just over 6 bottles of 750 ml in a box, last time we went I bought 2 of the boxes so I have a glass or three with my evening meal, please excuse the spelling of the wines but they are near enough to see which ones I have tried, best regards, Stan and Diana.
