I Never Really Thought It Made A Difference,

what religion or sexual preference you were,

when it came to having your dustbins emptied, but it appears it does in Birmingham, in the UK, baffled Brummies are being asked what their sexual orientation and religion is for a survey on wheelie bins, residents filling in a survey on household waste were stunned that, after being asked about recycling reward schemes, the sizes of bins and whether their property has space to store them, the questionnaire enquired if they were heterosexual, gay or bisexual,

but the council says that this is simply one of the standard monitoring questions to ensure that the responses represent a cross-section of the city’s population and that people do not have to answer it, with the council having already committed to provide wheelie bins for the vast majority of households, the questions are taking views on the type of wheelie bin scheme – leaving some residents angry that they were not even asked if they wanted the bins in the first place,

Mr Dave Dixon said: 'it does not ask if residents want such bins but is very interested in their sexual orientation, are we going to have different coloured bins dependent on ones orientation?', former Tory councillor Peter Smallbone said: 'the survey doesn’t ask whether you want one, but does ask about sexual orientation, it’s typical pointless lefty nonsense' and Paul Stanley said: 'why do I need to answer questions about sexual orientation/ethnicity/religion when responding to a survey about wheelie bins?',

a council spokesman said: 'although we do ask those questions, as part of the effort to make the feedback as informed as possible, you will have also noticed that “prefer not to say” is an option to every question in that part of the survey',

it is not the first time Birmingham council in the UK have dropped the ball, in 2008 the council famously printed the skyline of Birmingham, Alabama, USA on more than 360,000 leaflets promoting the city, last summer the authority spent thousands of pounds on a wicker statue of Jamaican Olympian Usain Bolt doing his famous victory pose - before fans pointed out they had got it the wrong way around, it had his right arm raised instead of his left, I think I had problems with my dyslexia but even the council did not know how to spell it's own name, in 2010 thousands of voting cards had to be pulped after the wrong date was printed on them, it was later realised that the word 'Birmingham' was spelt incorrectly on the cards, your local council working for you.
