Another One Of Those Good Luck Stories,

we like so much, with a happy ending,

some time ago we mentioned a one tonne, 2.4m-long (8ft) granite artifact that was left outside Bronwen Hickmott’s family home after her parents bought it from a tea planter who returned to Sussex from Sri Lanka in the 1950s, well the good news is this just been sold at auction but instead of going for the £50,000 that it was estimated for, it went for 10 times as much, £553,250, which was quite amazing as she was turned down by both Sotheby’s and the BBC's Antiques Roadshow when she asked both organisations to look at it, it was not until Sam Tuke, from the Exeter branch of Bonhams, showed the step to the auction house’s art experts in London that its origin was identified, lucky or what?
