Caltagirone, Sicily,

is a city known for its design and production of ceramics and terra-cotta sculptures,

it is also known for the Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte,

built in 1608, it is 142-step staircase made from thousands of ceramic tiles, one design per step, as a fitting tribute to the city,

for centuries the stairs have been used as a backdrop for various festivals,

for which images of patron saints and other local themes are illustrated using thousands of flowers or candles, for a little more information have a look here, the pictures were taken by Andrea Annaloro.
