For A Number Of Weeks,

Diana and myself have been watching Cheers,

and enjoying the shows immensely, one thing I did not know was that the pub in the series was based on a real venue,

Cheers Beacon Hill as it is now known was formerly the Bull & Finch Pub, in case you have not watched any of the shows it is a comedy, each episode takes place in a bar/restaurant located on Beacon Street in the Beacon Hill neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts, the show has it's regular characters and each episode is centred around their interactions I guess is the best way to describe it,

as an aside the title sequence won a Emmy Award for its 60 second opening sequence amongst the 111 Emmy's the show won over its life, the sequence features still shots like this one, titled 'Saturday night in a saloon', taken in Craigville, Minnesota, 1937 by Russell Lee of the Farm Security Administration, the shot was then coloured,

and used in the opening credits, notice how the smokers hand has been removed, the type face is Cabaret and was designed by Alan Meeksback to the bar, it was founded in 1969 as the Bull & Finch Pub, the exterior of the bar is seen in the NBC television sitcom Cheers which ran from 1982 to 1993, when the bar took on the new name Cheers it opened up for them a new line of merchandising and even named a beefburger hall of fame after Norm! so if we ever visit Boston you will know where to find us.
