I Had Always Thought That Hospitals Were So Clean,

so it came as a bit of a surprise when I found out that,

research at three hospitals in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, compared the amounts of bacteria living on 120 elevator buttons and 96 toilet surfaces, guess which had the most bacteria living on them? the elevator buttons won hands down, they were much dirtier than the toilet surfaces, the prevalence of colonization with bacteria of elevator buttons was 61%, on the toilets, it was 43%,

the study was conducted by three physicians and reported in OpenMedicine, Vol 8, No 3 (2014), a lab technician—blinded to the source of the samples and purpose of the study—then examined them, so remember if this study is anything to go by when visiting hospitals get some one else to operate the elevator buttons! but I have just had a chilling thought, if a hospital can not keep its elevators cleaner than it's bathrooms what about the elevators in hotels and the office where you work, no wait, worse still just think how unhygienic the buttons may be in a public car park!
