When Ever I Think Or Hear Of 3D Imaging,

I always think of films,


not books or magazines, but 3D renders and digital artwork are being used in place of photos in catalogues and magazines nowadays, because using 3D software to create an interior scene is generally cheaper and easier than setting up an actual photo shoot,

and the chances are that you have seen a 3D rendering rather than a actual set without even realising it, take a company like IKEA who want to ensure the images in their catalogues look just right, without having to put together an entire interior space every time they need a photo, this convenience has led to IKEA slowly but surely replacing the real photos in their catalogues with 3D renders, 

in 2012 IKEA catalogues featured 88% real photos and 12% 3D renders, that number of 3D renders will increase to 25% next year and it's only a matter of time before other catalogues follow in IKEA's digital footsteps, does this mean the end of photo-shoots? I guess that some of the 285 photographers that IKEA employs will be enrolling in computer rendering courses some time soon, only time will tell.
