H.G. Wells (1866-1946),

wrote many books and stories,

one titled The Country of the Blind was first published in the April 1904 issue of The Strand Magazine, it is one of Wells's best known short stories, it tells about the travels of Nuñez and his visit to Parascotopetl, well here is something he could have done with, a free eye, you may have to read the story to get the significance, it is a great read.
