I Am Sure We Have All Seen Examples Of Japanese Gardens,

where gravel or sand is painstakingly rake over,

to give a pleasing effect, well artist Bruce Shapiro has taken sand sculpture to a new level,

he invented the Sisyphus Machine, an elaborate kinetic drawing machine that uses magnets to drag rolling steel marbles through a thin layer of sand to create complicated mandala-like patterns,

Sisyphus, the name of the machine was also the man the Gods punished by making him roll a rock up a hill only to have it roll down again, but he could never stop rolling the rock to the top, evidently the Gods could think of no worse punishment for man than futile and hopeless labour,

but back to the machine, many of his Sisyphus Machines have been installed in locations around the world including a large device in Switzerland back in 2003 and at Questacon in Canberra, Australia in 2013, but if you want the ultimate table top executive toy he is designing a table top version, for a sneak preview have a look here and if you are really interested sign up to receive news of when it will be available and no I am not on commission, I just thought it was neat.
