no not the one from the space ship the USS Enterprise, this Captain James Kirk will take to the seas on Monday in the USS Zumwalt, “We are absolutely fired up to see Zumwalt get underway,”
said Kirk, according to the Tampa Bay Times, “For the crew and all those involved in
designing, building, and readying this fantastic ship, this is a huge
milestone.”
the Zumwalt is classified as a destroyer,
it’s built to escort larger ships and protect them from small, deadly threats, the U.S. Navy currently has 62 Arleigh Burke class destroyers, with thirteen more in the works.
the 600-foot, 15,000-ton USS Zumwalt glided past
Fort Popham, carefully navigating the winding Kennebec River before
reaching the open ocean where the ship will undergo sea trials, the Zumwalt,
the first of three ships in the class, will cost at least $4.4 billion, the other two are the PCU Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), PCU
Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002), both under construction, the first to be given it's sea trials is named
after Admiral Elmo 'Bud' Zumwalt Jr.
