NASA have held a Centennial Challenge,
and this is the winner, the Clouds AO teamed up with SEArch to create Mars Ice House,
it consist of a translucent fin shaped double shell
structure contained within a transparent ETFE film,
and here is the amazing thing, the structure is 3D printed with
water ice, on Mars ice is abundant in the northern latitudes and
easily extracted as it's covered by only 30cm of loose regolith, also worthy of
note is that more than five million cubic kilometres of
water ice have been identified on Mars, enough to cover the planet to a depth
of thirty five meters, for a fascinating
video of the project have a look here.
