Before Deciding On Our Car,

we did look at a few others,

and was tempted amongst others by this one, a Volkswagen Touareg, but here is the thing, how do you pronounce the word Touareg? and what is one? so I had a look, the car is named after a group of people, the Tuaregs of the Sahara, and strangely enough naming products after ethnic groups is considered offensive by many these days, also the Tuaregs live in a politically volatile region, and in 2012 they were in the news across the globe because of their involvement in a bloody insurgency, so to recap, Volkswagen decided to give their car for myself an almost unpronounceable name associated with an ethnic group which was highly likely to become embroiled in violent conflict, great name for a car then!

still it could have been worse, back in 1996 Rover ran an advertisement featuring a 1888 paining by Anglo-Dutch artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, titled The Roses of Heliogabalus, depicting the young Roman emperor Elagabalus (203–222 AD) hosting a banquet, beside the painting was, a small Rover badge with ‘Relax, it’s a Rover’ beneath it, under the picture, just below the cascading roses, were the words, ‘Few places are as comfortable as a Rover 400.’ pity the Rover advertising manager did not know his art, the painting depicts a (probably invented) episode in the life of the Roman emperor Elagabalus, also known as Heliogabalus (204–222), taken from the Augustan History, although the Latin refers to "violets and other flowers", Alma-Tadema depicts Elagabalus smothering his unsuspecting guests with rose petals released from a false ceiling, the original reference is this:

'Oppressit in tricliniis versatilibus parasitos suos violis et floribus, sic ut animam aliqui efflaverint, cum erepere ad summum non possent',

in a banqueting-room with a reversible ceiling he/she once buried his/her guests in violets and other flowers, so many violets and other flowers that some guests were actually smothered to death, being unable to crawl out to the top!
