or fancy living there,
this is the sort of house I would be looking for,
located on a large plot of land,
the house has ten
bedrooms, five bathrooms, four fireplaces and 6,000 square feet – the dream
fixer-upper,
allegedly it also has a few ghosts,
the
James Seymour Mansion was built in 1861 by, you guessed it, James Seymour, a
notable philanthropist who had founded the local library and city hospital,
located
on a street lined with Victorian homes in the historic city of Auburn, New
York, the three story mansion has kept almost all of its original character,
it also includes another building,
Auburn is
located at the end of one of the Finger Lakes, and has a steady tourist income
thanks to several local historical sites related to the Civil War, Underground
Railroad, Black History, art history, women’s rights and more, the house itself
was once part of a historic house tour each year at Christmas, the professional opinion of a historic preservationist, believes that the
home requires very little work to bring it up to safe living conditions,
so how much I hear you ask? just $50,000 if the plan you submit for its renovation is accepted, what a bargain! there is one downside, the taxes are around $2000 a year based off the $163,000 assessment, which is a
pretty good deal, but you would need to consider that once the home is restored
and improvements are made to the exterior and surrounding land, the ‘tax
assessment’ would increase, oh and I did mention the ghosts? hopefully they will not be violent ones! the house is listed here with Michael Derosa,
or if you fancy a slightly smaller property nearby there is this 5 bedroom for sale, at just $54,900 available here at Zillow, now which to choose?
That area of New York State is where I grew up, and yes... it is one of the cheapest real estate markets in The United States. If a house like that interests you, HERE is a fully restored version in my home town, for sale at a respectable price, and right down the street from it is This one which costs less than a new car, but could use a little love. And yes... right in the middle of the beautiful Finger Lakes region, with its rolling hills and vinyards, beautiful little villages. Just a 3 or 4 hours to New York City though.
ReplyDeleteDear Jil, I had no idea houses like this were so reasonably priced, the one in your link, what a bargain, for anyone being able to work from home a real dream home, so much space, if only I was much younger and had free healthcare as we do in the UK I could almost think about making a move, although I am pretty sure Diana would want to stay in the UK, many thanks or your information and link, best regards, Stan and Diana.
