Open For 700 Hundred Years,

but now under threat of closure,

above, the entrance to the Old Church House Inn, photograph by Dave S. CC by 2.0, at the Old Church House Inn people have been drinking for over 700 years, at its famous location in Torbryan, Devon, but it could be closed, the owner has already been allegedly threatened with an unlimited fine and 4 years imprisonment! the trouble started when proprietor Amanda Mitchell decided the time was right to put in a new floor, a previous owner had opted for poured concrete in the Seventies and the result, while practical, was viewed as an eyesore, Mitchell wanted a natural slate and thought nothing of calling in contractors to replace the floor, but then the local council found out about the natural slate floor, the owner of the historic pub was shocked when the local Teignbridge Council threaten her with the action mentioned above, because replacing the old cast concrete floor with a natural slate one was not allowed, currently there is natural slate on the floor but this is over a layer of sand, a more permanent solution is in the hands of higher powers, well why not make the council happy, and pour a concrete floor back, as it was in the 1970s? your local council, working for you!
