and we were off,
to the station,
first a train to Bromley South,
and then to Herne Bay,
a quick pose,
and we were walking towards the pier,
first a look along the beach,
and at the breakwater that makes the harbor,
a kiddies play aircraft,
hand fashioned in wood,
to commemorate Briton's Amy Johnson, who tragically died whilst flying a RAF mission in the Second World War,
a look at the beach on the west side of the pier,
and a quick pose,
just before the start of the pier there was a shop, I was intrigued by this sign outside of it,
so on to the pier,
the one way system clearly marked,
looking back towards the shore,
a lonely seagull surveying his domain,
well we had too!
an ice cream each,
whilst sitting and eating our ice cream, I looked at a families crabbing kit,
it consisted of a hand line and drop net, the net is baited and lowered, and looking through the clear water below when a crab takes the bait the net is lifted,
I am guessing this is a local family, as they had brought their own bucket, three crabs so far and by the time we had finished our ice creams another two more had hit the bucket,
as we walked along the pier we came to the fun fair,
it was a close race with a photo finish,
we were tempted by the doughnuts, but decided to wait until after our midday meal,
I thought this was really neat, water dodgem boats!
there were so many families fishing for crabs,
in the distance what I at first thought was an extension of the pier, the walkway to it now disappeared, but was a landing jetty for large boats, as the shore here slopes away so gradually that larger vessels can not get near to the shore,
helter skelter anyone?
we made our way back along the east side of the pier,
looking towards the clock tower,
plenty of goodies,
to take home,
and if we were feeling like a Thai there was a Thai food stall here,
a quick panorama of families crab fishing, I mentioned to Diana, looking at the number of people fishing, and the numbers of crabs caught, there must be a huge population of crabs around here,
we made our way back to the shop with the crab fishing sign outside of it,
and you guessed it, bought a refrigerator magnet,
we started our walk,
past the rain shelter, which we thankfully did not need today,
all along the seafront there were gardens,
these Scottish thistles were huge,
we passed another tribute to Amy,
so Diana had to strike the pose beside her,
the legend,
passing the clock tower,
there were a number of these mosaics,
showing various periods of the history of Herne Bay,
we passed the Divers Arms,
with this piece of information above it,
at last we found a place for our lunch,
fish and chips with gherkins, saveloy sausages, and a glass of wine, 'Cheers!', the bill came to £39.95,
meal finished we crossed the road,
and retraced our steps towards the clock tower,
and over the mosaics,
a last look along this part of the beach,
as we made our way back past the gardens,
towards the pier,
where this family were dropping the crabs a line,
at the start of the pier there was a colorful display of ornamental grasses,
seagulls on the rocks waiting for a free feed, the deep water dock in the distance,
we started walking away from the pier,
for some time, then turned into town,
for the railway station, what a delightful day, and just by chance Diana looked to see what we were doing this time last year, and to the very day we were just down the coast,
at Whitstable, arriving at Bromley South Diana jumped on a bus, to see Wilma, one of her work friends,

I arrived home and put the refrigerator magnet in its place, later in the evening Diana arrived home, so a coffee feet up for our usual New Tricks, Silent Witness, and we were then off to bed.
