but this has got to be near the top of the top ten in weird,
behold the the
‘pyrophone’ – also known as a ‘fire/explosion organ’ – which was first invented by
French physicist and musician Georges Frédéric Eugène Kastner in 1869, Kaster took
advantage of Dr B Higgins’ 1777 discovery that a hydrogen flame positioned at
the lower end of glass tube could produce a note and combined this with his
musical knowledge (his father was the composer Georges Kastner) in order to
produce a “Fire Organ”, as the instrument was also known,
as the poster says a show of light and sound, but what did it look and sound like? this is the nearest thing to it today,
this
incredible instrument was found at the Transworld Halloween and Attractions
Show, it’s played by Tom BetGeorge, a Californian music teacher and YouTuber who
goes viral every Christmas with his
house light displays to Beethoven, John Williams and
more, so he knows a thing or two about syncing music and blazing visuals, BetGeorge plays Bach’s dark, brooding
and virtuosic Toccata and Fugue in D minor, the musician said: “I was able to
play this amazing fire organ!
It was a lot of fun although it got pretty hot when playing the higher keys.
Please excuse my mistakes as I was playing it off the top of my head from when
I was a child.” a blazing organ, how weird is that?
