Time For A Update,

on our television,

regarding the green patch on the screen, we had a email from LG who said it would cost £500 to replace the screen, a courier would pick the screen up, but, could not take the television off of the wall, which we really do not fancy doing ourselves, it weighs so much, on another note I wished to know if we had the screen repaired, will the new one do the same thing in 30 months time? so I telephoned to enquire, I was number 17 in the queue, after waiting what seemed an age, (and it was), I got through, the person I talked to could not give me an answer, but said LG has a call back service and would call between 5.00 to 6.00 today, that was last week and I am still waiting, note to LG your call back service does not work! yesterday I called again, luckily only number 9 in the queue, and good news the operative knew the answers, allegedly the new screen will not get the green patch, but I must arrange for someone to remove the television from the wall, so we are now waiting for a quote from a television repair company to do that, as it happens I explained to the company what had happened with the green patch, to which they replied it is a very common problem that LG knows about! the price they quoted for a new screen was £2,200 plus fitting! apparently LG are charging a token amount as our television is out of guarantee but still relatively new, so a word to the wise, avoid LG OLEDs like the plague! we will post another update when we receive a quote for taking the television off of the wall, it seems a shame that LG does not offer, for a extra charge, a service for folks like us to take a heavy television from the wall, but there it is,

I had a quiet day after that, I had dropped off our dry cleaning last week, it was that so heavy, but I noticed that they offered a free delivery service, I enquired when I dropped the cleaning off, no problems, "we deliver just after we close", was the answer, "6.00 Monday evening", it is now Tuesday morning and we are still waiting, why does this sort of thing always happen to us? I watched a few documentaries until Diana called, then it was time for her advent calendar coffee, we watched a Lewis followed by a New Tricks before we were off to bed.

News Flash!
just one minute before I posted this, LG call back, called back! it only took the weekend, but with nothing further to add, other than if you can not take the television off of the wall it will not be repaired, end of news flash.

  1. Stan-funny, we had a five year extended warranty on or 65” Samsung tv. One week before out of warranty we had a nice big green spot show up in the middle of the screen. Warranty was with Costco retailer and once I sent in the pictures and filed a claim, they notified us we would be getting an equal replacement shipped. You guessed it, we got a replacement shipped 3 months ago…a nice new LG. So far so good but waiting for daily.
Your dry cleaners and LG experiences show that failure does not happy just to you(why me?) but is a new universal theme. Companies and individuals seem to not be responsible for commitments made either with products or services. The “Golden Age” is in the past and now we suffer with the “Failure Age” So believe if everyone compared notes we would find that you are not alone in failures but the majority of us all are having the same issue. Believe root cause is the many steps in new processes companies have put in place to achieve a simple outcome. We used to have 1-2 interactions to complete issues. Now 4-5 interactions the norm and so complex that when handing off between steps, someone or something fails. No like the old days. Alley and I have decided to try and keep everything in our life simple so at least we avoid some of the complex situations we all seem to find ourselves in when things fail.
    Regards
    John and Alley

  2. Dear John and Alley, great that you had a good result with Costco, for us when we bought the television having done a little research everyone said that with OLED televisions the chances of failure did not warrant a extended warrantee purchase, so we jut had the 1 year, more fool us! As for the dry cleaning they did show up on the second appointment, no apology for not arriving the first time, that was that, I should have gone to the cleaners near the shop that I always use, but the clothes were so heavy and this one was just a walk away, best regards, Stan and Diana.
