must be hefty,
and “fairly good looking” and they must be able to withstand a “rough and tumble.” image: Met Police/ Unknown Newspaper, how times have changed! this old Metropolitan Police advert from the 1930’s has raised eyebrows after it resurfaced online, the historic advert, from an unknown paper, encourages female police officers to join the London force, at the time and the advert even requested that the women applying were not married, this condition of employment was common for multiple professions and female teachers were among those who were expected not to be married for the duration of their career, those who were successful in applying would be answering to Sir Philip Game, the Met’s Chief Commissioner from 1935 until 1945. It was a special advert that targeted “spinsters and widows, girls in public schools and universities” as well as those with experience in social work and nursing, as I mentioned how times have changed!
