as far as interiors are concerned,
black is the new black, if this 2 bedroom flat is anything to go by, inspired by Batman’s Gotham City, every room in the two-bedroom apartment is painted black, with black furnishings,
located in Piccadilly Basin in Manchester’s popular Northern Quarter, the unique apartment boasts two deluxe double bedrooms, a kitchen and living room space, and a custom-build bathroom complete with a walk-in rain shower. Except for the toilet, bathtub and sink, every surface in the 990-sq-ft pad, including the walls, floor and windows, is black,
originally the property was a warehouse, the building was converted into a 1920s Art Deco-style living space by Liverpool-based property developer, Maghull, and was eventually turned into the all-black abode it is today,
“The apartment is not a space you come about every day, especially in Manchester city center,” real estate broker Spencer McLeod said. “Unique in its space, layout, and décor – this apartment is inspired by Gotham City from the iconic Batman movies. You can clearly see that the owner has spared no thought when it comes to the detail of the apartment. If you’re a young professional looking for a sexy pad in the city center, this is certainly a strong contender.”
and the price for this des res? last year it was on the market for £400,000 ($522,414), but you can now grab it for £25,000 cheaper if you find the black as irresistible as the real-estate agents describe it, I guess the price drop is an indication that it is not as desirable as the agents think, do I like it? well I have to say no, now here is a thought, at the other extreme would you consider an all white interior?
Dear Stanley and Diana
ReplyDeleteWe are about finished with building our new home and will move in in five weeks. The exterior is white with a black metal roof. Interior is white walls and ceilings with black accents and fittings. We find that blacks are not primary colors but work well if used sparingly to highlight whites. Believe if one would live in a black house, one would become depressed in short order. Some of the USA home decor TV shows are following the new black trend of painting a ceiling or 1-2 walls black as highlight walls. I told Alley these designers are desperate to find a new “trending” idea as must have exhausted on normal, appealing ones. Again, believe if folks are foolish enough to follow such craziness then they will devalue their home plus have a mental health bill for depression. Black is a natural enemy of light so I guess you would need a torch during the daytime to navigate your house. Maybe the paint companies are behind sponsoring all of this foolishness!
Reminds me of the fashion industry and those models wearing unusually designed outfits one can’t sit or relax in. Who buys those?
Like all the new movies, writers can’t come a new plot so copy one of the old classics. They always rename them, sometimes the best classic movies get copied 3-4 times.
As they say, history repeats itself.

John and Alley
Dear John and Alley, I have to agree, an all black interior I would find so depressing, even just a single black wall for myself is a no-no, just a small thing will the black roof transmit heat downawrds, or is that the plan, when in Thailand a number of people paid to have their roofs painted white to refect the heat of the sun. I totally agree about the clothes, I have featured outfits a number of time that are tottally unwearable, as for films I remember in one of the Airplane films there was a poster showing a 70+ year old boxer, the title? Rocky 25th, or similar! best regards, Stan and Diana.
