I Have Never Believed In Recycling,

the cost of moving, sorting, and making a new product,

photograph GETTY IMAGES, without some form of financial assistance or subsidy, means it will always be cheaper to make the product, say glass from scratch as opposed to moving and recycling cullet from homes, in case you do not know something as simple as a broken wine glass can not be recycled, and it appears at least in America I am not alone in thinking recycling is actually a waste of energy and money, a report from Greenpeace found only 2.4 million of the 51 million tons of plastic waste generated in the US last year was recycled, in other words only 5% of the 51million tons of American household plastic garbage got recycled last year - the rest ended up in landfill! Also having read the article I realize that I am also expected to split plastics into 2 different categories, those that can and cannot be recycled, all plastics feature a number surrounded in a triangle, which notifies recycling companies what the product is made out of, allowing them to know if it can or cannot be recycled, and as it happens there are 7 different types of plastic, number 1 is for PET, 2 HDPE, 3 is for High-density polyethylene, 4 indicates LDPE (Low-density polyethylene), 5 is PP, 6 indicates PS (Polystyrene) and 7 is other, so now you all know not to recycle numbers 3, 6 and 7 as those plastics are not able to be recycled, or stay with the 95% and do not bother! and if you think sorting the above is difficult, wait till you read this!
