In The UK Are Energy Companies Helping To Bring Down Gas And Electricity Prices,

or are they just trying it on?

yesterday I received the following from my energy supplier, at the end of the letters you will see that electricity, the unit rate (per kWh) has gone down from 35.79p to 34.68p and that gas unit rate (per kWh) has gone down from 10.50p to 10.31p which is great news, but you will have to scroll down to the bottom to read the sting in the tail,

although the unit prices have gone down, the standing charges, that is the rental that the energy companies charge you for the rent of their meters has gone up! OK for the gas meter just 1p per day, but for the electric meter 5p per day, one has to ask why? it is the same meter that has been there since the company supplied them when the house was converted to flats some 40 years ago, so are the energy companies helping, or just finding other ways to keep the money rolling in?
