how much would it cost to build a hospital in the UK?
photograph HS2 Ltd. Proposed north entrance to HS2 Euston
station (as updated November 2022), I had no idea, so I looked it up, apparently
according to this article it is reported that the average cost is for a typically new, average mid-sized hospital design and building costs around £500m, remember that is to
design and build it, but with all of the complexities of building a hospital, I
would have thought that just to design a railway station would have been a lot cheaper,
but I was surprised to find that it is not, remember the £500m is to build it,
so how much would you think it is fair to just design, not build say a railway station?
£10m? lets be super generous £100m bearing all of the above in mind, how much do you
think to just and only just pay for the design for the HS2’s new Euston terminal has
cost? have a guess!

and the answer is just for the design alone an astonishing £289 million and that has already been spent on the design
only, and there is no mention if the design is actually finished! For a look at
the eye watering cost of building the new railway system Britain is building
have a look here, and the bad news? In another article the government’s
financial watchdog also suggested the need to create ‘an affordable and viable
station’ would likely lead to yet another design, effectively the third
iteration since 2020, talk about jobs for the boys, allegedly.
