according
to the Lokmat Times,
the
people of Karjat-Hast Pokhari, a village in India in the Maharashtra’s Jalna district had their prayers answered, their old dirt road had been replaced with tarmac, there was only one small problem, the 'road' surface was a very thin layer of asphalt over a carpet-like canvas, that could easily be
lifted from the dirt base with little effort,
the road was built as part of the Prime Minister Rural Roads
Scheme, and the company that worked on this particular project claimed to have
used the latest German technology to build the road, so no problem there then, but the people in the video can be heard criticizing the local
contractor and calling the road ‘fake’, the above video shows disgruntled locals in Karjat-Hast
Pokhari lifting up the
asphalt carpet to show that the ‘road’ was ‘bogus’, the video has been doing
the rounds on Indian Twitter for the past week, I just hope not too much is swept under the carpet!
Dear Stanley and Diana
ReplyDeleteSad, but par for the course. While living in India, one becomes accustomed to the organized corruption of most all government sponsored projects. Seems money speaks stronger than ethics, especially in a culture where open corruption throughout the system is the norm, is openly accepted, and expected. Top 10% of wealth exploits the bottom 90%. With a poor and slow legal court system, these programs and projects are easy games for those in the know. Will, as you say, there it is !!! Cheating is embedded in the entire social and business culture.
Could not trust anyone while doing business or living there….
