photograph Bristol Aquarium, well this red bellied piranha, (Pygocentrus nattereri), may not be fun to bump into, but are the rumours about this fearsome fish true? former President Teddy Roosevelt called piranhas “the
most ferocious fish in the world,” even more ferocious than sharks, but do
these infamous fish deserve that description?
well this video answers the
questions that many want to know, as it happens Roosevelt was suckered in, before
he arrived the locals caught piranhas from other parts of the river and tossed
them into their makeshift sectioned off part of the river, all while keeping the fish unfed, when
Roosevelt rolled into town, the locals finally appeased their captives by chucking
a live cow into the water, the rest as they say is history, Roosevelt’s description
of the fish, “The head with its short muzzle, staring malignant eyes, and
gaping, cruelly armed jaws, is the embodiment of evil ferocity; and the actions
of the fish exactly match its looks.” but when I read headlines like this:
"Four people were killed and 20 others have been injured in
separate piranha attacks in Paraguay this year", published here,
it makes me wonder how safe bathing in waters where the live really are.
