Looking At The 1960s Items At The Antiques Fair,

and tad later in the timeline the 1970s at Rumours of Fleetwood Mac,

from The Sun (Detroit), 1967, it reminded me of the banana skin hoax, in the mid-1960s, rumours of bananas as narcotics began swirling around the hippie scene, drugs freely available at the time cost a bob or two, banana skins were just thrown away, it was also rumoured that banana skins contain a psychoactive substance, and that smoking them may produce a "high", or a sense of relaxation,

from page 4 of the April 7, 1967 issue of Berkeley Barb,

add to the Donavan's song Mellow Yellow,

and the stage was set for the Great Banana Hoax, more about the hoax here and here.
