Sunday,

it was glad rags on,

and as Diana has Sunday and Monday off,

we were Ramsgate bound,

as it happens we had visited the town before in November 2020we arrived after a couple of hours, but it was to early to check into our hotel,

so a look at the marina,

and some of the yachts moored there,

unfortunately it was not very sunny,

and quite windy as it happens,

still, it was not raining!

we took a leisurely stroll along the front,

I have always fancied living on a boat,

on the opposite side of the road,

some buildings dating from well over 100 years ago,

a photograph of Diana, as we neared the obelisk,

crikey! I have not seen one of these in an age, a Moto Guzzi, a range of across the frame V twins,

the Royal Victoria Pavilion, dating from 1903,

it was apparently designed in a week and built in six weeks for the opening of the summer season, try and do that nowadays! those Victorians could teach us a thing or two!

we walked past the colourful beach hut, this one selling ice cream and all manner of beach toys,

the playground on the beach,

as we made our way towards the restaurant for our lunch,

up the steps with their gayly patterned tiles,

a little about them,

I love the balconies that so many seafront homes have,

we were nearing the top of the town,

and here we are, at the restaurant at Albion House

a peruse through the menu,

the view from our table,

well it had to be a bottle of bubbly,

it is not every day I am 74!

'Cheers!',

as our starters arrived,

fresh burraya for Diana, soured cream, toasted pistachios, broad beans, mint & olives,

for myself, cured Scottish salmon, with dill pickled cucumber, lemon crème fraîche,

well I had to have another 'Cheers!',

Diana followed that with roast Kentish chicken with Yorkshire pudding with all of the trimmings,

I went with roast Hertfordshire cap of beef, again with Yorkshire pudding with all of the trimmings,

'Cheers!',

we rounded off our meal with a dessert, Diana choose a dark chocolate brownie, salted caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream & chocolate crumble,

for myself,

a rhubarb crumble,

time to open my cards,

from Peter and Wendy along with Rosie in Scotland,

Steve and Kai,

and Diana,

inside Diana's card,

there was some paper,

I was astounded when I read it!

2 tickets on EVA Airlines to Bangkok!

Diana has been working so many hours and now I know why, she has arranged for her family to fly to Bangkok and meet us there, after a few days Diana and her family will fly to the Philippines for 3 weeks, meanwhile I will pop down to Pattaya where we used to live, and Diana has paid for 3 weeks in a hotel for me, and then I will meet up with Diana back in Bangkok for the flight home, you could have knocked me down with a feather!

this certainly deserves and other glass of bubbly!

what a birthday present!

and in the Philippines my birthday was also being celebrated, from left to right, Yumi, Szoe, Syd and Diana's mum Sandra,

complete with a birthday cake, yummy!

the meal including a spicy cocktail for Diana came to £140.00,

we made our way downhill,

stopping on the way to take a few photographs,

when the town was planned,

I guess all of this rockwork was built,

geology in Victorian times was more than popular,

with strata,

caves,

and walks on both sides of the road,

at the far end of one of the caves,

we made our way back past the harbour,

pubs and fish & chip shops,

in the distance,

at the top of the arches one of the restaurants we visited on our last visit here,

for our stay this time,

we booked into a Travelodge,

after dropping off some of our bags in the room, we took a walk along one of the arms of the harbour,

we had seen the advertisements and decided to have our evening meal here, but first we wanted to have a look,

'Now Open' well after a long walk, no it was not! as it happened there were a steady stream of cars driving out to the restaurant and then driving back, we should have taken more notice of them!

along the harbour again as plan 'B' sprung into action,

we decided to eat in the Royal Pavilion, a coffee and a coke for Diana,

a San Miguel and lime for myself,

after which a large spiced rum, 'Cheers!', we the hatched a cunning plan, with each meal came an option to buy a drink with the meal,

so 2 meals = 2 red wines!

a win-win all round!

Diana chose a pizza,

for myself scampi and chips,

another 'Cheers!', from myself, what a day!

Diana thought this so funny, in the glass of the door opposite us, one pane was distorted, so it looked like I had a huge forehead, think of the film,

an old sci-fi movie, This Island EarthDr. Meacham is chosen along with others by the inhabitants of the planet Metaluna to do research that will help save their dying planet, however, an evil scheme is uncovered by the suspecting Dr. Meacham when he discovers the Metalunan's plan to take over Earth,

film still from buellxb.com Brack and Exeter, the Metalunans, looking exactly like I did!

the bill for our meal came to £27.00, out of the Royal Victoria,

and back home to our hotel for the night, if you would like to see our next day in Ramsgate, please press the 'Older Posts' button at the bottom right of the page.
