Do Not Mess With Fish 110,

and you thought fish were fun! but not in Newgale, Pembrokeshire, where the weaver fish has claimed the beaches, a couple of people have trodden on the fish (Echiichthys vipera) which buries itself in sand with just it's poisonous dorsal fin erect waiting for the unwary to tread on it,

the sting is intensely painful, a quote by one suffer, ' this happened on a beautiful quiet beach on an idyllic, hot sunny day, around 9.00am in County Wexford, Ireland (Rosslare Strand). I waded out to around calf depth and suddenly felt "punched" on the side of the foot, almost instantly, the pain became very severe. I walked (staggered, more like) back to my mother and son, the only other people on the beach and collapsed, while hyperventilating, my mind began trying to work out what had happened, I decided that I'd been stung by some creature with a nerve toxin venom and that I would soon begin to die,'

a common occurrence at Brighton in the mid 1950's, almost everyone trod on one who went into the sea one summer, for anyone unfortunate enough to be stung put the site of the sting in water as hot as you can bear, heat breaks down the toxin in the poison, but seek first aid as an allergic reaction can happen, also be warned that once expose to weaver fish venom it has been reported that people then stung by a bee can experience anaphylactic shock, be careful out there!
