It Appears That Bolton Council Have Made A Bit Of A Slip Up,

and wasted a lot of money,

in choosing what appear to be cobbles but are stone flagstones to pave the streets of the town, the pavements have cost upwards of £1 million, the same smooth stone flags were laid across the town centre last year — in Deansgate, Knowsley Street and Oxford Road — at a cost of £467,000, but here is the problem, overhanging trees, it or they make the stone flags slippery, evidently the shade from the trees allows the growth of algae, which people then slip on, so the tiles may be given a £13,500 anti-algae treatment,

a spokesman said, 'the paving stone selected for the Churchgate site was fully compliant to UK standards, however, given the logistics of the site, we have been made aware of a build-up of algae', pity the poor people of Bolton who pay with broken bones, but then in 2010, the council paid out more than £400,000 in injury compensation, the payouts were made up of a string of claims made by members of the public amounting to £360,000, as well as £50,000 compensation awarded to council staff, the council made 71 payouts to Bolton residents, ranging from £850 to £27,000, for slips, trips and falls on council footpaths and pavements, there were a further 15 payments made to council employees, including teachers and school staff, ranging from £1,000 to £13,750,

crikey that was just in 2010, I wonder who much will be paid out in 2011? I guess it would have been cheaper by now to have pulled them up and started again, still a nice little earner for an actor and ambulance chasing lawyer!
