Another One Of Those 'Good Luck' Stories I like So Much,

owned by exiled Romanian King Carol II,

the earrings were originally bought by Queen Victoria's great-grandson King Carol II of Romania- who was known as the "playboy" king, (sometimes known as 'The Mad Monarchist'), he gave the earrings to his to his then mistress Elena (“Magda”) Lupescu in the 1930s, (she was his third marriage in 1947 at age 54 to Helena (Elena) "Magda" Lupescu, age 51, Magda Lupescu had formerly been the wife of Army officer Ion Tâmpenu), Elena left them to a British woman friend upon her death in 1977, put in a drawer and forgotten about as they were thought to be 'ugly' where they languished for years, the earrings were later inherited by her nephew and his wife but they also kept them out of sight,

it was only when the lucky couple had their home looked at by auctioneers pricing up other heirlooms from their Wiltshire home that their true value was discovered, the experts were stunned and said the find was a once-in-a-lifetime discovery, the marble-sized pearls, which dangle from a row of diamonds, are white with rose and blue overtones and are incredibly rare due to their size,

now the good bit, Jonathan Edwards, of Woolley and Wallis auction rooms in Salisbury, Wilts., said they were the highlight of his 35 years in the jewellery business, the earrings have a pre-sale estimate of £120,000 but the antiques expert predicted they could fetch five times that, yes half a million UK £'s! I am sure some one some where has an old jewellery box with another set lurking in it, I just wish it was me!
