The Cutty Sark Is Open Again,

after being restored from a fire that gutted her,

the world's last remaining tea-clipper the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, South London tomorrow will open once again to the public, today will see the Queen and Prince Philip officially re-open the Cutty Sark, I have visited the ship many times, it was a favourite place to go as a kid when we lived in Plumstead, launched in 1869 from Dumbarton, Scotland, the last surviving tea clipper has been berthed in dry dock at Greenwich, London since 1954,


the fire which took place in 2007 damaged her extensively, but as luck would have it many items were saved because conservation work had already begun on some areas of the ship, and the mast, rigging and parts of the cabins had been removed when the fire struck, the cost of the restoration has been put at £50million, visitors to the Cutty Sark can now see the largest collection of historic figureheads in the world, which was assembled in the early 20th century by an avid collector of merchant shipping memorabilia and given to the Cutty Sark in 1953.
