This Looked So Cute,

I had to have a second look,

and found out it was not a bird at all,

it was a stone that had been painted,

if I pick up a stone or rock, to me that is what it is, but Akie Nakata sees things differently,

every rock that she finds gives her inspiration and she can see an animal,

based in Japan’s Saitama prefecture, the artist collects Zuni fetishes: small carvings of animals that are integral to the customs and traditions of the Native American Zuni tribe, it is unclear whether this collection eventually led to Nakata’s own, original artwork but the similarities are hard to ignore, for Nakata though, there is no carving involved, She posts pictures of her work, usually alongside the original stone, which is helpful because the final work often hardly resembles the original stone, if you’re interested in purchasing one of her works you’ll need to reach out on Facebook, but note that the pieces get sold quickly, and she doesn’t take custom orders, what an amazing talent, all I see is just a rock, but after she has painted them it is so obvious what the animal is, I have said it before, amazing.
