  1. Five or six years ago, I actually got pulled over at a police checkpoint here in The Philippines for driving with sandals on. Of course, everyone in The Philippines wears sandals. So while the officer was explaining to me how I shouldn't be driving with sandals on, I made it a point to agree with him, while staring intently at the feet of all the other motorcycle riders driving by wearing sandals.

He obviously got the point and didn't write me a ticket. I honestly think he just wanted to practice his English or find out more about the foreigner in his town than to actually enforce the law. I never switched over to proper shoes, still wear sandals, and have not been hassled about them since.

  2. Dear Jil, as you might expect and I am sure you know, whilst in Thailand wearing flip-flops was de rigueur when driving any sort of transport, luckily I was always wearing casual shoes when driving, but I think the boys in brown if stopped, would have defiantly written a ticket! best regards, Stan and Diana.
