There Are So Many Things In Life I Do Not Understand,

and this is one of them,

you may remember this photograph, it is one that I used in this post in August this year, from the post:

next year all new cars, vans, lorries & buses (and similar vehicles) will be fitted with automatic speed limiters, alongside other new safety devices, yes you read that correctly, every vehicles speed will be monitored! through the use of cameras, GPS and computers, onboard systems will be able to impose limits & restrictions on the power of vehicles as they approach the speed limit, we will differ slightly from the EU law in the deployment of limits. As per Auto Express, for now limiters in the UK will "give drivers feedback when the speed limit is exceeded rather than limiting the speed” as opposed to the ESTC interpretation "If the driver does not apply the brakes [when entering a lower limit], the vehicle would in any case slow down naturally to the new speed limit by reducing engine power.” 

I decided to look up speed limits in Europe and found this on the official web site of the European Union:

'the general speed limit for motorways in EU Member States is mostly 120 or 130 km/h. Germany does not have a general speed limit for motorways, but a recommended speed of 130 km/h. The general speed limit for rural roads in EU Member States is mostly 80 or 90 km/h and for urban roads 50 km/h'.

bearing in mind that in Europe those limits will be forced on car drivers, their cars automatically limiting the speed, so why buy a supercar like a Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini et al when flat out you could be looking at your grandmother doing the same speed at say 75-80 mph? and this is what I do not understand, I am sure I am missing something here, will people still continue to buy high performance and high priced sports car at £100,000+ knowing that it will only go as fast as 80mph?
