With All Of This Warm Weather,

I can imagine ice cream sales have skyrocketed,

but for a change how about a hot ice cream? Hirata, a small village in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, has become famous for challenging tourists to try its ultra-spicy habanero-laced ice cream,

so why spicy ice cream? after the Fukushima disaster of 2011, it became increasingly difficult for the village to sell its vegetables, then for no obvious reason three local farmers were attracted by the idea of growing “cute” little Habanero peppers, without giving too much thought to the fact that they were much too hotter for most Japanese consumers, then a lightbulb moment, sprinkle the peppers over ice cream and sell the ice cream to tourists, you can choose how hot the ice cream is going to be,

making Habanero ice cream is not the easiest job in the world, workers wear gloves, masks, and goggles as they sprinkle the treat with tongue-burning Habanero pepper powder, and when they say it is hot people need to sign a waiver clearing the seller of responsibility before trying it, but here is the good news, if you finish the hottest treat you get your 500 yen back, at today's rate £3.03 or $3.70, bargain!

a correspondent from a popular Japanese reality show recently traveled to Hirata Village to try the famous Habanero ice cream and opted for the hottest variety, did he finish the ice cream? lets just say it all ended in tears, hilarious!
