I Sometimes Have To Ask,

"do those in government really know what they are doing?"

image: Shutterstock, when I read articles like these, the first concerning the building of new homes, apparently in 2025 the government wants to ban convectional gas boilers and insure that all new homes have charging points for all electric cars, but there will not be enough electricity! from the article:

'Steve Turner, Executive Director of the Home Builders Federation told Energy Live News: “The requirement to move to electric heating and install car chargers will increase demand from new build homes, we need to ensure that the capacity is available in local networks such that we can meet the requirements and maintain housing supply.” The industry has written to the Prime Minister, calling for more clarity on the impending deadline, which is still in the consultation process, housebuilders fear that the move to electric heating and the installation of electric vehicle chargers will increase demand from new build homes, leading to potential shortages in grid capacity'

'speaking on BBC Radio 4, McMeikan revealed that charge points at four Moto locations are 'sitting there with no power', leaving EV drivers unable to use them, McMeikan said: "There was a target set for the number of chargers by the end of 2023 that there would be at each motorway service area and that was a minimum of six, "Sadly what there hasn't been is a target set for the power companies of the amount of power that's going to be required to operate those chargers and also a time commitment for the power companies of when that power would be made available ready for those chargers to start to operate, "We have got a situation... where we've put sufficient chargers on four of our motorway service areas and the power required once the chargers were put in place is not available. So EV drivers are turning up to motorway services at four of our locations and there are chargers sitting there but no power."

as I asked at the opening of this post, "do those in government really know what they are doing?"

Dear Stanley and Diana
Here we go again! Not only in UK, USA has same electricity grit shortcomings even without adding EV chargers. On the coasts, brownouts continue as hot weather has increased a/c electricity demand. Biden and company are real idiots as now with suggestion of no gas cling stoves or heaters for homes. Natural gas and heating fuel oil are the norm in the Northern USA as electricity for heating using heat pumps only works in the south.
This group wants to heat with electric and would cost a fortune. Meanwhile some of the electricity to be used comes from burning natural gas or oil at the generating plants.
Seems politically charged reasoning not common sense drives these poor decisions that will end up failing. Most here are sick of the corrupt Biden, Obama, FBI, Justice Department and most members of Congress-mainly for continued poor decisions that benefit special interests but not the citizens. EV is like a disease and it can only damage us. At some point it will fail, I hope sooner than later!

Dear John and Alley, over here it is the same, the list goes on as one folly is replaced by an even worse one, I kid you not! we are being encourage to fit heat pumps, although it has been proven that they only work and even then not very well, in new built housing, most of the housing stock in the UK would have to have a fortune spent on it to bring it even near being suitable for heat pumps, but there it is, the people in power know best! best regards, Stan and Diana.
