We Had A Quiet Day,

in the afternoon Diana went to work,

as she is working the evening shift, so I though I would make another video, in this part, number 13 of the live fish market at Chatuchak market in Bangkok, we visited some shops selling Siamese fighting fish, (Betta splendens), over years of selective breeding the fins of the males in particular have been grown larger and both males an females have more colour than their wild ancestors, the males use their finnage to show of to the female, the female is kept in a jar so she can see the male, and when the breeder judges that the time is right he introduces her and they spawn, the male building a nest of bubbles in the surface of the water, in this shop there were a number of trophies that the owner had won over the years, also something now rarely seen in the UK unless you are a fish breeder, micro worms, (Panagrellus redivivus), a food that is used to raise the fry on, later as the fry grow a different type of worm is used, Grindal worms, (Enchytraeus buchholzi), back in the 1950s/60s many fish keepers had their own fish room, shed or garage, and everyone would breed micro, Grindal and white worms as fish food, all were so good for the development of fry, young and adult fish, a small thing I remember about Grindal worms, was that this species was discovered by Mrs. Morten Grindal of Sweden who was attempting to improve her White worm culture and stumbled upon these small worms by accident, the next size up for worms that aquarist cultured was White worms, (Enchytraeus albidus), for larger and adult fish, each type of worm being bigger than the previous one, but here is the thing, if you were not scrupulously clean it was easy to transfer the smaller worms to the lager ones, and then they would take over the culture, the advantage of growing your own food for your fish was that the worms for the fish were highly nutritious, and eliminated parasites and diseases that could be transferred to your fish from a wild caught live food source, now of course fish foods are sold in tubs or can be bought frozen, so many memories of my own fish shed coming back! in the afternoon I watched a couple of quiz shows,

until it was time for a read and a sherry,

and my evening meal, for tonight a plate of liver and bacon,

'Cheers!',

after which I watched a couple of episodes of Wolf Hall, which is on the second disc of episodes 4 - 6, a really enjoyable period drama, I had watched the series before, but it was still enjoyable to watch again,

the same can be said about Now You See Me, during which Diana arrived home from work, so a coffee and a chat as we then watched a Have I Got More News For You, after which we were off to bed.
