there are three brands that spring to my mind,
photographs by Daici Ano and Tomoyuki Kusunose, courtesy Torafu
Architects, they are Airfix (UK), Revell (USA) and Tamiya (Japan), and it is the last company I am looking at here,
it has a new flagship facility in the Shimbashi Toranomon
area of Tokyo,
has just opened across the street from the previous store which has been selling kits there since 2008,
the new store has been nicknamed the Tamiya Plamodel Factory,
designed by Torafu Architects, the new Tamiya Plamodel Factory is
located in the Shintora Yasuda Building,
around 6,000 Tamiya products will line the 4-meter high,
100-meter long product shelves,
“The meandering product shelf has cut-out windows leading
the gaze to the end of the shop,” explain the architects. “The windows frame
the scenery, and the visitors are guided to the rear of the shop by seeing it
through the windows.”
what a place to visit if modelling is your hobby,
also there is a café area connected to the office entrance is a cultural zone perfect for a
quick break or as a place to meet up, the
Tamiya Plamodel Factory is
situated in the Shintora Yasuda Building 1st floor, 4-3-1 Shimbashi (map),
opening times: weekdays 11:00am to 8:00pm; Weekend and Holidays 10:00am to
7:00pm.
