I Had A Quiet Day,

Kai, Diana and Kai's family,

were all in Kai's home town to celebrate a family members wedding, so I was receiving pictures via Line every few hours, but here for myself I had a day indoors, so it was feet up and watch a couple of films, in the afternoon a real classic, Gone with the Wind, it appears in this list of every 88 Best Picture Oscar Winners in the Best Picture category since the inception of the Oscars, not in my order of preference, but there it is they are all winners, and at number 12, Gone With The Wind and the book found itself at number 26 on the American Library Association’s list of the 100 most-banned classics, the book was not even available in Russian, as it was not given permission to be published by the central party committee until it's translation finally and publicly appeared in 1982, made by Tatiana Alexseyevna Kudriavtseva, who waged a successful 18-year battle with the Communist Party to finally publish the book, it was of course printed in Russia in 1940, but was never made available to the public, back to the films, so how many of the 86 films have you seen? for myself a disappointingly low of only 59,

and of course who cannot remember the Tom Lehrer parody of the era? I Wanna Go Back To Dixie,

after my evening meal it was feet up to watch a couple of documentaries ad rounded off the evening with a true life feel good movie October Sky, set in Coalwood, West Virginia, in the 1950s all the boys in the town grow up to be coal miners and Homer Hickam has no reason to think he'll be any different, too small to earn a football scholarship, Homer has no way out of his predetermined life -- until the soviet satellite Sputnik flies over the October sky and changes events for ever, a nice feel good movie that actually in some places really happened, and with that I was off to bed.
