the words of Dr. Mark Hyman, a family physician, New York
Times bestselling author, and a
bonafide expert on
the topic of this deadly white powder, a little more about the powder that kills and gives so many of us problems, our hormones, taste buds, and brain chemistry are all
hijacked by this powder, not metaphorically, but biologically. Simply put, you
get addicted, like you would be to some of the deadliest drugs on the planet this
is because food contains not just calories or energy to fuel our cells; food
contains information. When we eat this naturally occurring product, it increases
our blood glucose and it tells our body to increase insulin, in order to
shuttle that glucose into cells. But when we constantly eat a lot of it and have
chronically high blood glucose, we develop insulin resistance, which is the
predicator to developing type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance usually comes with
increased fat storage, high blood pressure, and a poor cholesterol profile.
Elevated blood sugar and insulin promote inflammation and cause a hormonal
cascade that makes it hard to think clearly, maintain a healthy weight, stay in
a good mood, have a healthy sex drive, and so much more, and what is this deadly additive product?

sugar! on a personal note I gave up sugar in tea, coffee over 30 years ago, cutting out all soft drinks, coke, pepsi et al, 15 or so years ago, who would have thought sugar was not your sweet friend, but instead a deadly fiend! photograph wikimedia commons.

When I was in college, my swim coach loaned me a copy of the book "Sugar Blues", which detailed how addicting sugar is, how much damage it does do our bodies, and how beneficial it is to stop consuming it.
While I still take in a bit of sugar, it is a small fraction of what I used to consume.
Dear Jil, I was chatting to Steve about sugar, and both agreed the two things that if introduce to humankind now would never be allowed was sugar and alcohol, one I could do without, but perish the thought of no beer! best regards, Stan and Diana.
