that some pets can cause injuries to their owners and others,
normally we think of dogs biting people, but here is a new one on me, in Taiwan a parrot causing sufficient injuries that is owner was fined 3.04
million New Taiwan dollars, at today's rate £83,797.06, or $102,172.85, and remarkably the injuries were not the result of a bite! apparently
a pet owner by the name of Huang took his 2 pet parrots for a fly in the local
park, one of them landed on the back of a jogger and caused him to fall to the
ground, the fall caused the man to
dislocate his hip joint and fracture his pelvis, both of which required
hospitalization and a long recovery period, He ended up suing the parrot owner
for damages, the jogger in this case, known only as Dr Lin, told the
Tainan District Court that he spent a week in the hospital and was unable to work
for more than half a year, his job, a plastic surgeon, required that he has to
stand to perform various procedures, so the injuries caused him serious
financial losses, “He can now walk, but if he stands for long periods, there is
still numbness,” Dr Lin’s lawyer said, for “causing unintentional injuries”
Huang was sentenced to two months imprisonment as well as the fine for compensation for Dr
Lin’s losses. The bird owner plans to appeal the decision, as he considers the
compensation “too high”, I guess it would be the same outcome if it was an out of control dog, but in the UK hopefully all responsible dog owners have insurance to cover this sort of thing, injury and court case by parrot, I have to say that is a new one for me!
