I Just Can Not Stop Myself From Reading About Old Cars, Boats, Trains and Planes,
well here is another one,
it is a Douglas SBD Dauntless that had ditched in Lake Michigan on a training run in 1944, last Friday it was taken to a pier in Waukegan, 60 kilometers north of Chicago then a one and a half to three year reconstruction will start on the aircraft, upwards of 130 aircraft remain at the bottom of the lake, this one was in more than 300 feet of water, more than 20 miles offshore, and it is not a easy task to lift a plane due to the lack of attachment points unlike a ship,
so hopefully this dive bomber will be in the skies to thrill future generations of aviators, a great job done by the salvage team.
