Another 'Good Luck' Story I Like So Much,

but in this case it all happened in the back garden,

Dr Owen Johnson, 53, who lives in in the village of High Ackworth, near Pontefract, West Yorkshire was inspecting a hole dug by builders in his garden when he spotted a ceramic pot protruding from the dirt, when he tried to dig the pot out it cracked open, spilling out a stream of gold and silver coins 'like a slot machine,' just under 600 coins dating from around the 1640s were eventually found, along with a stunning gold ring bearing the romantic inscription 'when this you see, remember me',

what a great piece of luck, the coins could have been stashed underground by a Royalist who feared it would be looted by Roundhead troops, but the story will never be known, the hoard is more than 300 years old and so is covered by the Treasure Act 1996, as some of the coins are valued at up to £85 each, a decision will be made as to the doctors find even though they were found in his back garden, a corner ruled that they are the property of the state, but of course he will receive some payment in due time, I wonder what other treasures may be lurking nearby, time to buy a metal detector perhaps?
