to walk to the bank,
so I approached the art deco style cinema from the side,
there appears to have been a new surface applied to the parking bays by the side of it, hopefully the front will be repainted soon, it does look to be in a bit of a state,
looking across the war memorial towards Croydon Road, I made my way back through the High Street,
and bought a few small brushes to touch up the screws holding the dinning room mirror to the wall, I also call into Boots for my prescription and Waitrose for some milk and a few other odds and ends,
I missed this on the way out, a road crew had called by and resurfaced a half of the road, I have to say it did not appear to need to be resurfaced but there it is,
as promised Robbie arrived
he had a big job on his hands,
remove all of the pipe work form the attic,
and there was lots of it,
plus a plastic water tank,
and a huge galvanised metal one,
over the past 100+ years various pipes had been laid for water and gas, and then discarded/superseded as the years went by,
and there was one problem pipe, a gas supply one, uncapping the end thankfully it was not live and had at some stage in the history of the house been disconnected downstairs in the cellar, but if he cut the pipe there was always the chance of some one reconnecting it, so instead of cutting the pipe like the others that were clearly dead, he had to cap this one,
which was easier said than done,
after being here for so many years it did not give into brute force, so heat was needed, when cherry red an enormous pair of stilltons that only gas fitters carry was brought into play, the pipe was unscrewed and a cap fitted,
the other end was cut,
by now the pile of discarded pipes,
was growing, as night fell Robbie called it a day, and will call back tomorrow for tank cutting and the next job, moving all of the pipes to the hall to be collected on Monday,
after our evening meal,
I was off to the club to meet Steve,
after putting the world to rights we said our farewells and I made my way home,
through the park, then feet up for a nightcap or three,
whilst watching Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, we had watched the film before, it was great fun to watch it again, as the midnight hour came and went we were then off to bed.
