Diana had another day off, so we had a cunning plan,
first a number 54 bus to the Green Man, then a 136 to Aladdin's' Cave near Lewisham in Loampit Hill, plan 'A' was to have a look there, then back to Lewisham for a bus to Greenwich, for a look around the town, stop off on the way home to buy tomorrows joint and then home feet up for the afternoon, so out into a grey morning,
a bit of bad news to start, the Copers Cope bus stop was now closed due to the road works and traffic lights, so a walk to the next stop, also the traffic was backed up to past Shannon Way, so we also decided that on the way back we would get off at Stump's Hill and walk through the park home, after changing buses the 136 soon dropped us off outside Lewisham Collage,
above the entrance,
two shields,
I have to admit I do not what they signify, but I do know that back in the late 1960s I was here one evening for the summer ball which featured groups such as the Bonzo Dog Do-Dah Band!
and next to the collage a farmers market,
as you might expect,
stalls everywhere around the outside of the area, with a few more stalls and benches in the middle,
plenty to tempt us,
and doughnuts too!
on one of the vegetable stalls,
a nice display of Brussel sprouts,
and on the seafood stall fresh oysters,
having walked around the stalls we made a move a short distance down the road towards Lewisham,
to Aladdin's Cave,
easy to spot because of the sign and chairs outside,
the shop specialises in antiques, reclaimed and recyclable items in a showroom and yard, the address is 72 Loampit hill SE13 7SX open Thursday/Fri/Sat/Sun 9:30/5:30pm telephone 07964 624322,
as we walked in,
we were amazed at some of the items on offer,
everywhere we looked,
for anyone with a home building project,
this is the place to come to,
just a quick check,
all OK!
the emporium stretches alongside the railway track, so we started to walk down the slope,
who knows what treasures for home owners could be unseen in this tub,
and for a retro central heating look, radiators,
also as a room feature there were so many fireplace surrounds,
and fire grates as well, so many to chose from,
marble worktops, and pieces of marble,
as well as tiles were everywhere,
I was busy snapping away,
not to sure about the Christmas trees,
we continued walking,
towards two shipping containers,
there was just so much here,
more fireplace surrounds,
in the containers more wood products,
waiting for new homes,
looking back up the slope to the main showroom and road,
we started to walk back,
stopping to have a closer look,
at some of the tiles,
along with sinks and bathroom ware,
along the wall some huge posters,
and what man cave would be complete with out a set of traffic lights?
and here is another set to complete your room,
Diana made a short video of the outside,
we now went into the main showroom,
which was packed to the ceiling,
and I just noticed the working traffic lights,
I thought at first some kind to specialist lathe,
but in reality I think it is a piece of artwork, but what do I know,
easy to miss,
so many lights above our heads,
and of course Jaws,
I noticed this radiator, with such a nice design on it, we had seen these in use in a public house we went to in Greenwich last year I think it was,
into one of the smaller rooms,
if you like ornate mirrors, this one has it all,
Diana made a video of the inside as well,
looking across the main room,
where I was still snapping away,
I was torn between taking photographs and just looking at the treasures on offer,
what a lovely feature this would make in any home,
in one of the rooms a blazing log fire, in the same room I meet and had a chat with Toby,
I then continued to look around, bins of bathroom fittings on the floor,
and then I spotted another one of those lovely ornate radiators,
I like so much,
we started back outside,
where if you want a vintage patio look in the garden, these will come in handy,
this is the video that Diana made of the main showroom, what a fabulous place to look around, but remember the opening hours, open Thursday/Fri/Sat/Sun 9:30/5:30pm telephone 07964 624322,
outside as we waited for the 136 bus in the pouring rain, it was obvious that plan 'A' was out of the window, so it was plan 'B' that is no visit to Greenwich, just pick up our shopping and then home,
so we stayed on the 136 to Catford,
across the road to go shopping in Aldi,
we knew that the Copers Cope bus stop was closed and that there were huge queues waiting for the 5 way traffic lights, so we went into the park via the Stumps Hill entrance,
we noticed a few runners, covered in mud it has to be said,
then lots more,
we stuck with the pavement, the runners using the unmade pathway past the pond,
as we neared the mansion we turned right,
in the distance what we guessed was the finish,
I took a few more photographs as we neared it,
having spoken to Steve, who is a runner, he told me that it was Kent X country match, as it happens Steve's running club had 2 teams entered,
we passed the snail mail box and turned left,
past the parked cars and then home,
in the afternoon we watched Pulp Fiction, it is one of those films you love or hate, we both loved it, it is the story of the lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits that intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption, for us the best lines of the movie,
Fabienne: Whose motorcycle is this?
Butch: It's a chopper, baby.
Fabienne: Whose chopper is this?
Butch: It's Zed's.
Fabienne: Who's Zed?
Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead,
you have to watch it to appreciate it!
it was then time for my read and sherry,
followed by a prawn avocado with chopped spring onions salad,
with just a drizzle of lemon,
on to our main courses, chicken for Diana,
baked salmon for myself,
'Cheers!',
for dessert a blonde Belgian chocolate ganache each,
eyes down and tuck in, we listed to music,
and then Diana asked if we could watch Litvinenko, which was great as I wanted to watch it as well, it is a factual 4 part series, about how a British citizen on UK soil was poisoned by Russia, and the widow's fight for justice, at times the UK establishment acted as badly as Russia, but the truth outed in the end, what a harrowing true story, it was compelling viewing, so much so we watched all four episodes back to back! by now it was early Sunday morning, so with that we were off to bed.
