before Diana was off to work in the afternoon,
we were out,
past the snail mail box and onto a tram to Croydon,
Diana went window shopping,
I popped into the Barclays Bank, opposite
what is now a empty shell of the big 3, the stores that in the1950s to the 1970s defined Croydon, this was Alders, now empty and dead,
where Primark now is there used to be Kennard's, and further along Grant's, all remember in the comedy series Are You Being Served? banking and window shopping done,
we walked down the hill to the Surrey Street market,
now also a shadow of its former self,
there was a good selection of fruit and vegetables,
on sale,
literally from all over the world,
including these huge melons,
we had a quick look in the fishmongers, but no shellfish on sale,
back on the tram to IKEA
we are going to pick up 6 more picture frames for our wall in the living room,
shopping done and back to Beckenham, Diana went straight home to get ready for work,
I walked past the green into Marks & Spencer for some milk and bread,
before walking home, after I dropped Diana off at work it was time to start playing with our new frames,
and here they are,
last week we replaced the top row small frames with bigger ones and with a black surround,
let the fun begin! I had already mounted the prints we wanted to use,
and here they are, both rows with the larger frames,
the 6 nearest the window,
and the 6 furthest away, after my evening meal and the usual Outback Opal Hunters and a Deadliest Catch, it was feet up for a film,
Glory, following the Battle of Antietam, Col. Robert Gould Shaw
(Matthew Broderick) is offered command of the United States' first black regiment,
the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, at first limited to menial manual
tasks, the regiment fights to be placed in the heat of battle, the historical
backdrop against which Glory transpires is mostly historically accurate, in
fact, a great deal of effort went into getting the details correct, if you have
not watched it the film makes a good accompaniment to Gods & Generals and
Gettysburg, as it finished Diana called so I picked her up from work, arriving home
feet up for a coffee and a It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, followed by a Kenny Everett
Video Show before we were off to bed.
