30 Years Ago Christine Whaling, 64, And Her Husband,

paid Leicestershire County Council to lower the kerb stones so they could park their car in their drive, if fact many families along the stretch of road in Leicester paid the council to build the driveways, it keeps cars close to the house for when it is raining and helps ease congestion as it removes vehicles from the road, since then, double yellow lines have been painted on part of the road, meaning restrictions apply to the carriage way, pavement and drive, so imagine the householders surprise when they were issued a £70 parking ticket, for parking in their own drive! the excuse given? the parking warden explained that because she was not entirely on her driveway and had parked partly on the tarmac that crosses the grass verge, she was liable for the penalty, a spokesman (another PC incorrect and totally out of the tree council person) for Leicestershire County Council said the driveway was counted as a public highway, He said the ticket was within the law and would have to be paid, Robert Wann, Labour councillor for the area, said people could think the ticket was part of a scam, 'If it was anyone else issuing tickets for parking on your own drive, they would be calling it a scam and advising people not to pay.' all I can say is look at the picture, totally unfair Leicestershire County Council, the ticket stands.
