Something For The Weekend?

a small number of things to do this weekend,

well I guess first on the list is the Notting Hill Carnival this Sunday 25th /Monday 26th August, the last time Diana and myself were in the UK we went with Steve and Kai and had a great time,

you can also get down and get dirty if you wish at the Bogsnorkelling Triathlon, on the 25/26/27 of August, this weekend, three days of pain and endurance starting with a 7.5 mile (6mile for juniors) run followed by 2 lengths of the 60 yard peat bog trench and then a 19 mile (12 miles for juniors) mountain cycle, that's just the first day, the second day sees 27th World Bog Snorkelling Championships, the current World Champion in an amazing time of 1 minute 24.22 seconds, is Andrew Holmes from Yorkshire, and the Junior and Female World Champion is Dineka McGuire from Northern Ireland in an equally astounding 1 minute 27.43 seconds,

the last event is the Weird Fish Mountain Bike Bogsnorkelling, if you think that ordinary bogsnorkelling is just a bit tame for you, then how about trying your luck at riding a mountain bike along the bottom of a 6ft deep water-filled trench cut through the local Waen Rhydd bog! the bike used is specially prepared with a lead filled frame and water filled tyres to ensure grip on the pond bottom, the snorkeller/cyclist wears a lead weight belt to avoid floating off the bike, this is the scary bit, divers are on hand for safety purposes,

keeping to a slightly wet theme on 25th August the Carib Great Race, first held in 1969, sees powerboats racing from Port-of-Spain to Crown Point, a distance of 84 miles, the race begins just off the Yacht Club in Trinidad's Gulf of Paria, have a look here for the 2011 take of the event,

to round of the evening off on Saturday how about a fireworks display? an International one, the International Firework Competition that takes place in Hanover, Germany in the city’s Baroque Grosser Garten, the 5 nations competing are Mexico, Austria, Sweden, Spain and France, but remember with all of the above check the event is on first!
